I enjoy interactive stories a lot. A few years back I got addicted to a mobile game called Episode (I am pretty sure I am way too old now to play that game though) because it was really intriguing concept that my decisions could affect the future of the story. However, it was devastating to realise that often no matter what you chose, the final result ended up being almost always the same. :P However, with Episode I was introduced to a whole new genre of game and that’s how I found Life is Strange and it was a.w.e.s.o.m.e.
Oh well, back to the point. Because of my devotion to interactive stories, I took a course in interactive storytelling at the university where two of my friends and I decided to group up. As our first assignment we were tasked to create a sandbox board game that tells a story. For that, we used Twine to make a prototype of it. We decided to write a satire of how women are sometimes presented in games.
For our second assignment, our group member came up with the idea of a murder mystery where the player investigates who is behind their close one’s murder attempt. This is only possible by figuring out everyone’s alibi and possible motives.
