Thought it would be fun to show a few old 3D sculpts that I have done during and after school :) Hopefully someday I can continue my 3D hobby a little bit more!
The horse was inspired by our bachelor’s thesis that my friend and I wrote together last spring. I have talked about the thesis on my ‘projects’ page so take a look if you feel like it! Anyways, a nice thing about doing research on a game is the fact that you have to play it for some time so you’ll know what you will be writing about the next months. I found the game really fascinating and I didn’t even notice I ended up playing it even after we had finished our thesis. I have always adored horses so I decided it’s time to model one. The first two pictures are screenshots from Unity and the next two ones are from Sketchfab (I wanted to try out how to import meshes and textures into Unity and how to set the lighting). The mane and the tail have a really high polycount so it’s not exactly game engine-friendly but I was focusing more on getting the right shape while maintaining a nice topology. I hope I will find time to work more on this project. Maybe design tack and finally animate it! Fortunately the more tedious parts such as skinning and rigging are done now.
Here are some render passes that I’ve worked on from time to time. On the first model, my goal was mainly to learn how to create multiple feathers fast and easy. I had already done feathers in Zbrush but I used a more complex method and it was nice if I only needed a few feathers in my sculpt. This time I used fibermesh and feather alphas (the top was inspired by one of Finnish designers). As for the second one, I used one of my older models and decided to redo the whole face, hair and eyes because I wanted to use some new techniques I have learned along the way such as sculpting the eyes instead of using spotlight and creating dreadlocks with fibermesh. Definitely the best part of this project was to design how the dress looks! (Have I told you already that I like fashion..?)
